ABOUT PUFFERFISH MARKETING

WHAT MAKES US TICK

When we first started Pufferfish Marketing, it was more about how we could grow our business to ensure a great life for our family. As time has progressed, that has evolved into how we can help grow other businesses to ensure a great life for our family! We realised that it wasn’t necessarily about growing OUR business but more about helping others and making a difference.

Family life is really important to us, and so is a sense of purpose, to do what makes us and those around us happy. In 2019 we made a decision for Nicole to scale back from full time corporate life and to focus on small to medium business, which is something we’d been doing ‘on the side’ for some time.

The start of 2020 in Australia with the bushfire crisis having an impact on so many businesses has only reinforced our aims to help. There are so many small to medium businesses that are struggling to make ends meet and are working ridiculous hours to seemingly get nowhere. We think…no…..we KNOW we can help!

Wes is more of a chameleon than a Pufferfish! From HR and Payroll beginnings in the public sector, HR Analyst in the private sector, a stint working as a Test and Tag technician followed by 5 years working as an Integration Aide for primary school children gives Wes a unique perspective from a number of different industries and sectors.

Wes has an innate ability to turn his hand to anything, however what does shine through is a quick analytical brain and a penchant for numbers.

At Pufferfish, Wes manages all things financial or database-related, creates websites and manages social media channels.

His passion is sport of any kind, collectibles and mentoring kids (not necessarily in that order)!

In 2020 Wes is extremely pleased to be a trained volunteer, mentoring secondary school children as a member of the Raise Foundation program.

Nicole has over (cough) 25 years experience working in Marketing roles, predominantly within IT, Learning and Development, and Recruitment Sectors. Many of these organisations required marketing to be performed “by stealth” - with little to no budget, and very short timeframes.

She quickly learned to work smart and work fast to achieve success - often juggling a number of different jobs at once!

Whilst at home in the corporate world, Nicole loves working for small to medium businesses because there’s always something new to create or build. Even better, it’s an opportunity to teach others how to ‘do it themselves’ if they choose to, and there’s a great sense of satisfaction that comes from passing on knowledge to others.

Her real passion is in creating, whether that be through music (piano / singing), drawing, painting, sculpture and graphic design.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate Diploma (Marketing)

  • B.A Social Sciences (Sociology)

  • Fellow, Australian Marketing Institute

  • SFIA Accredited Consultant

WHY PUFFERFISH?

The idea of pufferfish began when working with a client that had a strategy to make themselves appear bigger than they really were - and it was called the pufferfish strategy.  This strategy involved being the “pair of hands” to put into practice all the activities from a detailed strategic plan and the wearing of a lot of different hats. From a marketing perspective, it meant creating a logo, branding, setting up a database / CRM, website creation and a LOT of social media - the creation of blogs, tweets, and LinkedIn status updates.

Through the use of contractors, the organisation was promoted as having a number of experienced staff and it became recognised as a leader in its chosen field.  The pufferfish strategy worked - and is achievable for every little fish out there!

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that people buy from people. We build relationships with our clients so we understand not only what makes your business tick, but what makes you tick.
